History of Club Atlético Peñarol The Peñarol Athletic Club is now 128 years old. Since its creation under the name of "Central Uruguay Railway Cricket Club", it was known as Peñarol, in reference to the emergence zone of the Institution. In 1900 our Institution was one of the four entities that founded the "Uruguay Association Football League", debuting in the first official local competition on June 10 of that year facing the Albion, who d22efeated by 2 to 1. In this way, the first championship was awarded, as in 1901, beginning to forge the glorious history that would mark the fate of the Club. On March 12, 1914 the "C.U.R.C.C." officially changed its name to "Club Atlético Peñarol". This reform was reported to "Uruguayan Football League" on March 14, being approved by it and all its associated clubs on March 17 and thus communicated to the Club by official letter.
